Though they are not verry numerous and not verry know at the end of the 19th century, the people of Găgăuzia managed to give Basarabia outstandig personalities that contributed to the social and cultural evolution of the populace, and their level of literacy. One of the leading figures, whose memory we honor, that made this social and educational development possible was Mihail Ceachir. He was also known as The „Apostle“ of the Găgăuzian people. Accomplished promoter of romanian language, Ceachir dedicated his whole life to the mission of spreading romanian language and the institutional teaching of this language to all romanian communities. We note that this individual also engaged in literary activities. Thus, the past of Găgăuzia and the UTAG culture is interwoven with romanian history.
