Rezumat

In this article the authors present the results regarding the way the emotions are used in daily life taking into consideration different aspects of emotional intelligence (IE): attitude to oneself and others, capacity to communicate; attitude to life and searching for harmony. The results were obtained by applying the EI diagnostic test of N. Hall. The authors studied the general level of EI as well as its structural components. It is a known fact that the more persons try to perceive and recognize adequately own emotions and those of others in the interpersonal relations, the more the attitude towards self becomes more positive, the desire to gain approval and positive attitude of surrounding persons increases. The emotionally intelligent persons more frequently orient to success, so that persons with high level of EI are characterized by bigger motivation to success, job satisfaction, greater satisfaction of basic needs and an increased activism. Accordingly, on the basis of acquired knowledge and internal motivation, there is a possibility to develop the structural components of EI. In adolescence, emotional and intellectual spheres of a person are flexible and sensitive, thus, the EI development could be facilitated by training, exercises targeting the development of the capacity of understanding own emotions and the emotions of others, skills of practical self-knowledge and managing the emotional behavior. The research was conducted on a sample of 245 students, selected randomly, aged between 19-28 years.
