Rezumat

The research was performed on a number of 30 rams and 335 ewes from 15 farms in the Binis village and on the flock of 3 rams and 30 ewes of Valaha with Corkscrew Horns sheep breed from The Research Station of Caransebes ( Caras Severin district). It were determined the morpho-productive and the reproduction indices and were performed body measurements to establish certain body size and constitution indexes. To compare the appearance of Valaha with Corkscrew Horns sheep breed with Ratzka of Hortobagy (Hungary) and Curly Tzurcana of Caransebes were measured the length of the horns, the distance between the tips of the horns, the ratio between the length of the horns and the distance between the horns (R) and the angle between the horns. In order to establish the group of breeds to which Valaha with Corkscrew Horns sheep breed belongs ( primitive or developed breeds) was calculated the archaism index value according to the methodology of A.Benadjaud and J.J.Lauvergne - 1991 [1]. From the obtained data results that Valaha with Corkscrew Horns originated in the Ovis Paleoegyptica which lived 5000 years ago in Egypt and was brought in Romania by the roman colonists and / or transhumant shepherds. There are differences regarding some body size and constitutional indexes, morpho-productive and reproduction indices. The angle between the horns (in 0 ) has significantly higher values on Valaha with Corkscrew Horns sheep compared with Ratzka of Hortobagy (from 109.440 to 118.080 against 85-950 ). Regarding the archaism index values, Valaha with Corkscrew Horns (index value = 6) did not differ from Ratzka of Hortobagy (index value = 8). The Valaha with Corkscrew Horns sheep breed has particular characteristics, it evolved on romanian territory and belonged always to the romanian shepherds.
