Oxidative stress (OS) is the condition that occurs when the steady state balance of prooxidants to antioxidants is shift ed in the direction of the former, creating the potential for organic damage. Prooxidants are, by defi nition, free radicals, atoms or groups of atoms with a single unpaired electron [1]. Th e article describes, based on the study of bibliographic sources from the last 10 years, the changes in the central nervous system caused by oxidative stress. Based on the analysis of several studies here are thoroughly described the pathophysiological, biochemical, immunological changes, etc., in patients with epilepsy caused by lipid pyroxidation and the infl uence of antioxidants on the evolution of the disease. In the review presented by the authors, based on the data of literary sources, there are reported the changes that occur in the evolution of the disease (epilepsy) under the infl uence of antiepileptic drugs. |
