Rezumat | |||||
Based on some unknown British documents, as well as on published documents, memoirs and, last but not least, on the huge historical literature regarding the Paris Peace Conference after the First World War, the present article is aiming to assert that the Romanian Delegation in Paris in 1919 had not only many adversaries, but also a lot friends, not only of French extraction, but some important names from the middle range members of the British Imperial delegation. Some of them, such as Eyre Crowe, Harold Nicolson, George Clerk and especially Allen Leeper, played a significant part in tracing the frontiers of Greater Romania. The author has chosen the issue of the union of Bessarabia with Romania in order to exemplify the contribution of some British diplomatists to gathering information and articulating an approach favourable to the international recognition of that union. |
