Rezumat

The beginning of “Stories in stone” was set by the sculptor Valery Bâtca in the process of studying the tombstones of medieval Moldavian tombs, which had a pronounced naive character and were distinguished by balance and symmetry in the compositions. Valery Bytka studied at Kinoaktior Theater School under the „Moldova-film” studio in Chisinau. Being an actor, but not having any opportunity to work in this area in the 90s, he starts from scratch at the age of 30 and becomes a student in the workshop of the sculptor Dmitry Verdiyanu, who was at that time in St. Petersburg. The works by Valery Bâtca can conditionally be divided into four large cycles: Dialogues with God (1993–2008), The Wine of Victory (1995–2010), Yard stories (2011) and Theater of stones (1996). In the compositional aspect, Valery Bytka solves the composition in a free manner, naive as children’s drawings, archaic as tombstones and conceptual in the spirit of modern art.
