Rezumat

Being an ancient tradition of rural communities on both banks of the Prut, the Village Hora (dance), along with other identity values such as language, song, dance, traditional costume, is a symbol and, at the same time, a distinctive brand of our ethnic culture. The Easter holidays represent one of the great occasions of the calendar year, which convenes the people of the whole village. The end of Lent was once marked by an event with strong identity significance – the Village Hora. In the evoked sense, the paper proposes a panoramic view with reference to this element of traditional collective culture. It is practiced in the form of a party held, usually on the day after the Resurrection, which continues throughout the year on Sundays and more important days of the religious calendar. Although, in general, the way of organizing and performing the custom in the Romanian culture is unitary, it also has some zonal peculiarities. Found so far in the repertoire of Easter customs, the Village Hora remains an ancestral model of spiritual manifestation in oral ethnic culture, even though in the last half century this institution of rural community has rapidly distanced itself from its traditional functions. The political-ideological climate established after 1940 in the Republic of Moldova accelerated the process of devaluation of the approached cultural phenomenon.
