Marcel Mihalovici (22.10.1898-12.08.1985), Romanian composer settled in Paris, was a remarkable personality in the musical culture of French capital. His talent was hightly appreciated from a young age by George Enescu. Following the advice of his famous compatriot, at the age of 21 Mihalovici goes to Paris for study at the prestigious educational institution Schola Cantorum. After finishing his studies in 1925, he continued the professional career in Paris as a successful composer, writing impressive works in diverse musical genres. His creations enjoy recognition from audience and some brilliant contemporaries, such eminent personalities of universal musical culture as Francis Poulenc, Maurice Ravel, Vincent d’Indy, Nestor Lejeune, Amédée Gastoué etc. M. Mihalovici collaborated with illustrious representative of world dramaturgy of the XX century, Nobel Prize winner in literature Samuel Beckett (1906-1989). The composer developed his own style in music, based on the fusion between contemporary compositional technique, some influences of European musical romanticism and elements of the language of Romanian folk music. The composer was honored with lot of awards and distincions. He was elected Corresponding Member of Institut de France and Académie des Beaux-Arts of Paris. |
