Metropolitan Gavriil is the descendant of the Banulescu-Bodoni family, from Câmpulung Moldovenesc, who later settled in Transylvania, Great hierarch of the Orthodox Church at the end of the 18th and 19th centuries. His ability to the work, the competence of Metropolitan Gavriil in so many areas of activity, awakens admiration. Everything he has initiated and realized presents us to our hierarch as a true encyclopaedist. Indeed, he was a person initiated in various fields of science, including the real ones. He also had special instruments for scientific investigations. As we can see from the ”Inventory of the objects left after the Metropolitan’s Death”, he had a telescope, a microscope, a thermometer and a barometer. Metropolitan Gavriil was also a book lover. This is what the rich personal library has to say about it. We must admit that the library of this great scholar at the intersection of the two centuries tumultuous in the history of the Romanian nation ‒ the 18th and the 19th century ‒ we still do not have a pertinent research. In the present article we try to decipher a part of the books in the register of goods left after the death of the Metropolitan, found in the funds of the National Archives of the Republic of Moldova
