The Monastery of Galata from Iași is one of the most important Moldovan economic, cultural and ideological monastic, founded at the end of the 16th century. Due to the generosity of its founder, Petru Șchiopul, the monastery has been building an impressed field in two decades, an exceptional fact in an era of political and economic crisis determined by the regime of Ottoman suzerainty established in the Romanian Countries. Despite a period of crisis (1618), in the first half of the seventeenth century the Galata monastery succeeded, thanks to the privileged legal regime it benefited, the policy of efficient management of the patrimony, as well as the activity of the clergy in the given community, impose among the ecclesiastical structures with tradition (Bistrița, Neamț, Probota, Putna, Râșca) economically and in the spiritual life of the Principality of Moldova. The analysis concerning the context of the appearance of the Galata monastery, the ways of developing its heritage, as well as the implications of the monastery in the economic activities are the topics of this study.
