Rezumat

As stated by the WHO, the COVID-19 outbreak and the response to it has been accompanied by a massive infodemic: an overabundance of information – some accurate and some not – that makes it hard for people to find trustworthy sources and reliable guidance when they need it. Infodemic refers to a large increase in the volume of information associated with a specific topic and whose growth can occur exponentially in a short period of time due to a specific incident, such as the current pandemic. The COVID pandemic has served as a breeding ground for fake news outlets, as well as for the so-called alternative media to consume and widely distribute these products. The fact that humanity has resized its life, activity, communication in the online environment, has led to the increased number of false news published and distributed online during the pandemic. Many of the false news had as basic narratives conspiracy theories, adapted to the context of the pandemic, which led to the creation and popularization of a new pandemic myth COVID-19, which addressed false treatments, misinterpretation of statistics and data, declaring the pandemic as a fake invented etc. The article focusses on some important problems of infodemic issues as the specifics of false news, actions taken by social media to combat misinformation, popular narratives in the Covid-19 infodemia etc.
