Sand sainfoin, Onobrychis arenaria (Kit.) DC., is a promising non- bloating legume forage crop for the Republic of Moldova. This species has a wide range and is widespread in Europe, East Asia, and North America, particularly, in the USA and Canada. Sand sainfoins are perennial plants, with highly intense growth and development rate, able to form a large amount of fresh mass, tolerant to frost and insufficient moisture. During the first growing season, sand sainfoin goes through the entire development cycle, blooms, fruits and forms viable seeds. The germination capacity of the sand sainfoin seeds after harvest was 95-97 %. The harvested sand sainfoin fresh mass in flowering period contained 61% leaves and inflorescences, 15.3% protein, with RFV=174, 11.1 MJ/kg metabolizable energy and 7.17 MJ/kg net energy for lactation |
