In this paper, for the first time in scientific terms, the problems of translating Gagauz folk tales into Russian are considered. The focus is on preserving the ethnic specificity of the original text through untranslatable structural-plot elements – anthroponyms, toponyms, interjections, certain realities of Gagauz everyday culture, as well as on the problem of translating a number of Gagauz folk tales formulas (initial, medial and final) into functionally equivalent which are known to the Russian folk tradition |
