Rezumat

The paper aimed to identify the main trends in Romania’a agro-food foreign trade in the period 2005-2010. Agro-food foreign trade has been continuously developing, its value reaching Euro Million 7,053 in 2010, when it was by 161 % higher than in 2005. As a result, the share of agro-food trade in Romania’s foreign trade increased from 3.02 % in 2005 to 8.36 % in 2010. The most exported agro-food products were vegetal products (52.41 %) and food products, beverages and tobacco (28.46 %). The imported agro-food products were mainly represented by food products, beverages and tobacco (40.34 %) and vegetal products (29.06 %). The main trade partner is the EU.  The share of agro-food trade in Romania’s trade with the EU represented 8.54 % for export and 9.42 % for import in 2010. The main EU trade partner countries for export are Italy, Bulgaria, Hungary, the Netherlands, Spain and Germany,  and for import Hungary, Germany, Bulgaria, the Netherlands, Poland and Italy. The agro-food trade efficiency has substantialy increased in terms of export share in GDP, import coverage by export and export per inhabitant.
