Rezumat

Coronaviruses comprise a large family of RNA viruses that infect the digestive and respiratory epithelia and the nervous tissue. Immunofluorescence and immunochemistry assay were used to establish the presence of TGEV antigens in tissue samples  and feces of piglets and sows. 133 samples of different intestinal mucosal segment, feces and limph node smears  were tested by direct  immunofluorescence using a Anti-TGE polyclonal antiserum conjugated to fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) produced by VMRD. Increased sensitivity to this reaction was found in jejunum samples (72%).  Formalin fixed tissues  and feces were studied to confirm TGEV antigenes by indirect immunochemistry, by using a monoclonal mouse antibody FIPV3- 70 (Pierce Biotechnology).  The test  revealed a good  sensitivity to similar type of tissue: jejunum – 62,66%, limph nodes 47,36% . Feces samples provide also a good reaction by both type of techniques. The immunochemistry technique detected 7 more positive results  in comparision to the immunofluorescence assay, which recommand it as a more sensitive method.
