The three pollen-and-spore assemblages were established from the Pontian sediments in Moldova. They are corresponded to the three substages (Early, Middle and Late) of the Pontian.. Palynological data indicate on a progressive decrease in forestation, impoverishment of the taxonomic diversity of subtropical arboreal plants, and increase in grasslands caused by progressive aridization of moderate-warm climate during the middle substage. During the Late Pontian, the expansion of mixed deciduous forest with predominance of temperate genera, intermitted with grasslands occurred. It was connected with an increase in humidity and temperature. The relative climate variation curves for the Pontian are represented.
