Rezumat

We have composed a computer model and have calculated the distribution of electric field and current in the brain during transcranial stimulation with a weak direct current (tDCS) using an anatomically detailed 3D model of conductivities in the human head. The influence of the location, orientation of the electrodes on the magnitude of the electric field in various deep brain structures is calculated. It has been found that the standard electrode configurations used for tDCS are stable with respect to minor changes in electrode size and position, while variations in the degree of homogeneity and isotropy specified in the head model lead to significant changes in the distribution of the electric field. We estimated the optimal location of the stimulating electrodes to ensure effective action on the hippocampus and the cerebellum.
