In 2014 continued the rescue excavations at the multi-layered site of the Lipoveni commune, Cimişlia district. The main objective pursued complete uncovering of the household oven, identified in the previous year, and saving from destruction of the other complexes affected by illegal sand excavations in the immediate vicinity. As a result of researching an area of approximately 28 m2, archaeological complexes have been identified: a fireplace (nr. 2), a household oven (nr. 2) and 11 refuse pits (nr. 6-16). The oven is similar to that found in the previous year, being attributed to the housing of III-IV century AD. The clay fireplace has similarities with complexes dating in the first or second Iron Age, a fact confirmed stratigraphically. Concerning the pits, the filling archaeological material of them is assigned to three cultural horizons, namely early Hallstatt (XII-X centuries), Getic culture (V-III centuries BC) and Santana de Mures-Černjachov culture (III-IV centuries AD). Various inventory items are discovered in the excavation or on the soil surface. From the viewpoint of the material of production, they can be separated into pieces of iron (knives, piercing, tongue buckle), bronze (coin, link with nodules, arrowhead etc.) and stone (grinder). The collection of pottery fragments belongs to several housing horizons, namely the first and second Iron Age epoch, the period of the beginning of great migrations and late Middle Ages. Attention is attracted by a large number of animal bones, found especially in the lower part of the archaeological layer. |
