The study focuses on several aspects of cross-border cooperation between Romania, Moldova and Ukraine, within the Euroregions formed since the 1990s, which we considered to be of greater importance for the future sustainable development of the analyzed areas. We want to identify the main determinants of development as well as the main barriers that have influenced socio-economic development over the years. Based on these, various scenarios for the future can be designed. In this paper the data provided by the national statistical institutes in all three countries were used. Also, the results of the paper are a synthesis of the results of the socio-economic analysis carried out by various researchers from Romania, Moldova and Ukraine. We used the results of previous SWOT analyzes, which identified regional opportunities and the main threats in terms of strengths and weaknesses. The main social and economic indicators registered in national statistics were used, divided into the following categories: population and workforce, social and cultural dimensions, agriculture and forestry, other economic activities, transport and technical infrastructure. For each category, several key indicators were used and analyzed. The results show that there are currently many differences in the investigated Euroregions with regard to issues related to the different national policies applied or institutional strategies that exist, as well as differences in sources and channels of information. However, we can see that the Euroregions investigated are viable areas, as the limits of economic interests rarely coincide with socio-cultural boundaries, and historical boundaries are not always considered political and administrative barriers. In fact, a cross-border spiritual relationship works, generating collective identity, to the detriment of language or history differences. |
