In the process of the archaeological prospection carried out by the experts of National Agency for Archaeology in 2017 two settlements of the Cucuteni-Tripolye culture located near the Lărguța (II) and Cârpești (III) villages in Cantemir district were examined. Both settlements are located on gentle slopes of the valleys. In the Cârpești III settlement, the contours of two pits were documented in the cut of the clay quarry. Excavated pottery and anthropomorphic sculpture has wide analogies on the sites of Cucuteni A3-Cucuteni A4, as well as on the Cucuteni A-B1 settlements. This is evidenced by the nature of the painted ornament and some forms of ceramics. At the moment, Lărguța II and Cârpești III are the most southerly sites of the Middle Tripolye period in the Republic of Moldova. The appearance of settlements of this period in the Central and Southern part of the Republic of Moldova should probably be connected with the penetration of the tribes of the late Cucuteni A — early Cucuteni А-В phases from the right-bank of Prut river. Further research will allow to clarify in more detailed way their chronological position of Middle Tripolye period. Overview of 164 Precucuteni-Cucuteni-Tripolye sites of the central and southern part of the Republic of Moldova produced by us made possible the following observations. 28% of the sites do not have a clear attribution to a certain phase. 13% of settlements belong to the Early Tripolye culture. Phase Cucuteni A is represented by 11% of sites, Cucuteni A-B consists of up to 21%. The number of the sites belonging to the Tripolye BII-CI stage is significantly less (2%). The stage of Tripolye CII (25%) is represented by settlements and burials in plain and barrow cemeteries. |
