It is established that various types of lactic
acid bacteria fulfilling a significant role
are specific for the human digestive tract
depending on age. The negative changes in
the intestinal functional status correlate with
a decrease in time of the quantitative and
qualitative indices of lactic acid bacteria in
the intestinal flora. Here are highlighted the
vulnerable age periods related to the nega-
tive changes in the lactic acid bacteria spe-
cies and numerical value: the early postnatal
period and over the age of 50. It was found
that maintaining an optimal functional status
of the intestine requires specific prophylactic
and therapeutic uses of bacteria.
