Rezumat

This study addresses the influences of subjective feeling of loneliness on perceived psychological wellbeing among the youth, the latter being specified in terms of Maslow’s self-actualization concept, i.e. perceived quality of interpersonal relations, the integrality of the worldview and the view of self. We hypothesized that loneliness is a common experience among the youth and is directly related to dissatisfaction with the quality of social contacts and a negative view of self and others. The research sample consisted of 26 subjects, high school students with the age ranging from 18 to 20 years, which received and completed the Personal Orientation Inventory (Shostrom Everett L.) and The Subjective Feeling of Loneliness Scale (C. Духновский). The obtained results show that the feeling of loneliness is significantly intense in the majority of students, high scores being registered in 40% of the research sample and medium scores in 52.4%. It was also found that subjects with a more acute feeling of loneliness report a lower sense of social support, which increases their conformity and strive for affiliation. Being less open to recognize and accept their own positive and negative traits, they appear as less capable of establishing close and emotionally deep relations with others.
