Changes taking place in puberty and adolescence and transitions from elementary school to middle school and from secondary education to higher education make adolescents vulnerable to difficulties they may encounter in academic activities and in their social and emotional functioning. These difficulties may have a long-lasting impact on adolescents’ development, which can sometimes extend over the life span. Besides the findings of studies that focused on the fluctuations of school motivation, according to which this variable tends to decline after the transition from elementary education to secondary education, factors that explain the adolescents' disengagement with school deserve to be paid special attention. This work analyzes the findings of studies tackling the school motivation in Romanian adolescents. Factors that explain the decline of school motivation are also analyzed. |
