The immediate proximity of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union made it necessary to establish the relevant migration policies, in line with the EU’s ones, as well as to join the efforts for their implementation. Being one of the states participating in the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP), that opens the new perspectives to develop the closer relations with the EU, Moldova is making the substantial efforts to stop the migratory fluctuations. This article aims to research the main actions taken by the Republic of Moldova to address the problem of illegal migration. An important role in this problem solving refers to signing the Individual Action Plan Republic of Moldova - European Union where the program, strategic objectives and priorities of the relations between the EU and the Republic of Moldova for the period 2005-2007 were outlined. This document contributes to the migration-related problems solving, as well as the mechanisms establishing to stop the illegal migration, human beings trafficking. It also provides assistance to the refugees and people seeking refuge. An important step towards stopping an illegal migration was the launch of the European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM). Not less important is the Visa Liberalization Action Plan.
