Rezumat | ||||||
The monorail is undoubtedly a top technical creation belonging to British inventor Palmer who, in 1821, obtained a patent for this means of conveying materials or people. This new system represented a new concept of transport inspiring other inventorsmanufacturers to improve the Alweg or Safege systems. Par excellence, the Palmer variant stands for the British innovative engineering spirit surprisingly characterized by nonconformism and based on efficiency and economy. The monorail is not a spontaneous accomplishment. It was prepared by the British accomplishments of steam locomotives and double-track railways and many sleepers, which implied a significant consumption of iron and wood. The paper presents and describes the monorail pointing out a series of constructive dimensions. |
