Rezumat

Grigore (the baptismal name of the future Metropolitan) is the descendant of Banulescu-Bodoni, originally from Câmpulung Moldovenesc, who later settled in Transylvania. If human life is nothing but grass, and days are like the flower of the field, then the remaining deeds are like pillars, which allow future generations to give us the proper appreciation. Referring to Metropolitan Gavriil Bănulescu-Bodoni, we can speak with the same success, as a political man, a man of culture and a great founder and administrator. Man with broad, political and national views, great scholar, great founder and even great engineer. But the work of Metropolitan Gavriil did not only refer to the administration of the dioceses entrusted for pastoral service, but he also pursued a vast pastoral-philanthropic activity. Thus, by opening the asylum for children orphans in Kiev, Metropolitan Gavriil showed that the Church cares not only for man’s soul but also for his body. A special effort by the Metropolitan was aimed at introducing a new system of clergy maintenance (in the eparchy of Kiev). In exarchate he tried to introduce a special regime for the trial of the clergy, in order to keep them from being abused by civil authorities. Metropolitan Gavriil paid special attention to the reduction of taxes to the priests. Metropolitan Gavriil Bănulescu-Bodoni made a very intense and varied pastoral-philanthropic work in all the dioceses where he worked. He was a true shepherd who cared for much to the shepherds, but also to those who were not part of the clergy, or the faithful people subject to him, whether orthodox or heterodox. Through his work, Metropolitan Gavriil presented himself as a true philanthropist, remaining a worthy example to follow for any hierarchy of our day.
