Since the founding of the of Moldova Principality and until the beginning of the XIXth century, the institution of the deanery has developed a rather complex evolution, if in the first centuries of the existence of the Romanian medieval state from the Eastern Carpathian area, data on the competences and attributions of the archiprists were very stoning in internal documents. Starting with the second half of the XVIIth century and especially with the XVIIIth century, the information on the duties of the archpriests increased, many settlements, commandments of the princes, or the archbishops issuing and delimiting functions and attributions of the dean with respect to the state officials through the lands, or other ecclesiastical clerks. In its evolution, and especially under the impact of the Russian ecclesiastical administration, at the end of the XVIIIth century and the beginning of the XIXth century, the institution of the deanery was completed with a new structure, the sub-protopopes (the blagocin or the representivs of deanry) subordinate to the archiprists, and which for the space at the East of the Prut, became functional until the fourth decade of the XIXth century when, as a result of the reorganization measures of the Church through the adoption of a new ecclesiastical regulation in Bessarabia, that was completely restored. |
