This article dealt with the spread of old Romanian books in eastern Moldova during XVI-XIX centuries, i.e. from the invention of printing in 1508 until the end of the modern period of Romanian books. The whole period is divided into four distinct stages depending on the intensity of the bibliophile values entered in the area under consideration. The fi rst period covers the chronological frame from the fi rst printed book in 1508 (Liturgy of Macarie) to the end of the eighteenth century. The second stage ranges from the early eighteenth century to the early nineteenth century. The third stage ranges from the early nineteenth century until 1830. The fourth period span includes early forties to the late nineteenth century. Printed books are found in greater numbers in eastern Moldova after the establishment of printing houses Neamt Monastery (1806) and Chisinau (1814). The most numerous are the books printed in Bucharest, Chisinau, Neamt Monastery, then followed by books issued from the printing houses of Iasi, Râmnic, Buzau, Blaj, Sibiu, Buda etc. |
