Rezumat

The centuries-old traditions of pre-sowing treatment of seeds with the aim to obtain high yields are still very much the same, despite the significant technological and engineering progress in the agricultural sector. The pre-sowing treatment of seeds is one of the most important stages in the cropping system, which defines success of the expected yield. The search for cost-effective, efficient and eco-friendly method of pre-sowing treatment of seeds, which is safe for people and animals and results in high yields of agricultural crops, is an urgent economically and ecologically related problem. Among the physical methods studied with the aim to intensify technological processes for treatment of biological media an ultrasonic action on seeds of cereals is the most efficient and least studied method. In particular, the action of ultrasonic cavitation in the phase of the collapse of cavitation bubbles induces certain micro-erosions on the seed coats. Moreover, the cavitation exerts other high-speed stimulation effects.  The influence of ultrasonic (US) treatment on the germination of seeds, emergence and initial stages of growth of triticale (rye and wheat hybride) seedlings was studied. The samples of 50 seeds were treated by ultrasound in water in the following regime: the amplitude 15 m, frequency 17.6 kHz, temperature 25 оС, duration of treatment within 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 min. Then the seeds were placed for germination and sprouting on a wet filter paper at room temperature. The most pronounced effect of US treatment was observed for the treatment duration of 4 min. The optimal data on the germination of ultrasonically treated within 4 min triticale seeds and emergence of seedlings in comparison with the untreated seeds (control) are shown in Fig. 1. It was found out that the average length of the seedlings of the ultrasonically treated seeds by 15 - 20% exceeds the length for the control seeds. The ultrasonically treated seeds germinate earlier and exhibit greater germination vigor, higher length of seedlings and roots.
