Libraries play a crucial role in our communities by making information and resources available toeveryone. It is important that we do not take this role for granted. Unfortunately or appropriately, on the other hand, libraries face frequent challenges in our days: • Keeping up with changing technical requirements; • Understanding research trends & the librarian’s role in the research cycle; • Conveying the value of librarians to researchers; • Managing continuous transition from a print to a digital-based collection. One of the ways to meet those challenges - to purchase innovative library information system andtake advantage of all the possibilities offered by it. During the project, one of the most advancedLibrary Information systems Aleph and discovery gateway Primo was purchased and implementedto the Moldova partner university libraries. Because both systems are constantly updated and enriched, there are interesting to review some mostimportant new, still unused or not so active used opportunities of the Primo and Aleph. Several updates of the library information system Aleph and discovery system Primo were madeduring the last few years. Some of them are about minor corrections, bus there are some, which allowslibraries to start new or additional services: • Booking service; • Course Reading List management and search service; • E-mail messages and reminders for library users service; • Photocopy requestsand etc. And possibilities for Primo users: • Possibility for remote users to reach full tex documents; • Full text is also available directly from the interface (under Online Access); • Creating a Twitter Feed; • More opportunities to create and implement you own API; • Virtual Browse button; • Expand the search scope to include Flickr and WorldCat; • bX article recommenderand etc. There are many possibilities to create and implement new features creating and implementing you own API‘s into Primo, thus giving more power to the Library. The ability to create your library’s veryown discovery and delivery environment is one of the main benefits of having Ex Libris Primo. Everyenvironment consists of a user interface, unique collections, and discovery services that can betailored to the specific characteristics and goals of your institution, and the needs and expectations ofuniversities user community. Second step of library information system Aleph – cloud-based services plapform Alma, whichprovides managing print, electronic, and digital materials in a single interface, integrates withuniversity academic and financial systems, leveraging open standards and protocols and serving as acentral hub for the library, transforms a broad range of library data into actionable reports andidentifiable trends, for data-driven decision-making. I believe, technology has a huge amount to offer the modern library. Libraries have been very quickto understand the potential of technologies like Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), and Near Field Communication (NFC). There’s no reason why the technology couldn’t be used to explore thevirtual and physical collections simultaneously.I think, academic communities (as like as universities academic staff and librarians) recognises theneeds of technological innovatives in academic libraries, so unsurprisingly they are the mostinnovative when it comes to exploiting new technologies
