Indicele geochimic (Igeo) al metalelor grele din sedimentele subacvatice din r. Prut şi din fl. Nistru, precum şi afluenţii acestora, caracterizează starea sedimentului ca nepoluat - moderat poluat, iar a celor din lacurile naturale Beleu şi Manta, artificiale Taraclia, Comrat, Cahul şi din mun. Chişinău nu sunt poluate cu metale grele (clasa 0, Igeo <0). S-a constatat o poluare puternică cu Pb în sedimentul râuleţului din s. Izvoare, r-nul Orhei (clasa 4, Igeo = 3,1-3,3) şi moderat - puternic poluate cu Cd (clasa 2-3, Igeo=2,2) din sedimentul râuleţelor Zonei Umede „Unguri-Holoşniţa
