Rezumat

The article is devoted to the peculiarities of functioning of the monolexical functional-semantic field “money” in the English language.  The concept of “field” traces back to the definition of language as a system, representing a complex mechanism, which was theoretically explained by F.de Saussure. For our contribution, we have consulted the works of different linguists who carried out the research on the theme such as Western scholars: J. Trier, G. Ipsen, V. Porzig, L.Weisgerber, W. von Humboldt, J.Lyons, Ch.Morris, E.Coseriu, Russian scholars V.A. Zvegintsev, Ju. D. Apresian, A.N. Bondarko, V.G. Admoni as well as Moldovan researchers S. Berejan, A. Ciobanu and V.Bahnaru. The functional semantic field is a reversible integrity formed by lexical, lexical-grammatical and world-building elements and grammatical means belonging to the same semantic group.  213 monolexical units of the functional semantic field “money” have been selected for the analysis. The monolexical units are not only classified thematically but also according to the following set of three dimensions proposed by E.Coseriu: diaphasic (variations in the language across time), diastratic (variations in style), and diatopic (variations in different dialects).
