Thermal conditions of extremely hot summer of 2007 caused not only an increase of excess deaths, but also an increase of years of life lost. By means of the index of years of life lost the socio-economic damage of extreme high temperatures was assessed. This summer in the country the highest rate of years of life lost was observed among the age groups 18-39 and 40-59 years old, in urban areas, among women, as well as for cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. In this summer years of life lost as a whole has reached 1405.5 of years, and economic losses, calculated using the gross domestic product, have amounted to 9.8 million MDL. |
