Heart failure is a serious and expanding public health problem and it is one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide. Heart failure management is a challenging task within itself, but the presence of associated renal disorders can considerably increase mortality and morbidity. Early diagnosis and treatment may prevent re-hospitalizations and reduce healthcare costs. In the clinical setting of chronic heart failure the evaluation of renal dysfunction is essential. Heart failure patients often develop renal function worsening, termed as cardiorenal syndrome.
