Chronic liver diseases are at the moment an important public health issue, both in our country and worldwide. Management and prognosis of chronic liver disease are strongly influenced by the staging/severity of liver fibrosis. Liver biopsy is still considered the „gold standard” in current medical practice, but this method is subject to a series of disadvantages: low acceptability, morbidity, a minimal rate of mortality, price, and even the possibility of errors. This is why the occurrence of new methods to evaluate fibrosis is completely justified, and this article’s scope is to discuss, based on literature and personal date, the most important of them: Fibrotest, Fibroscan, APRI, FIB-4 scores. The purpose of this ongoing research is to study correlation of biological tests for assessing liver fibrosis and elastography (Fibroscan) results in patients with chronic diffuse liver disease. The combination of these approaches as first-line assessment of liver fibrosis could avoid the performance of liver biopsy in the majority of patients with chronic liver disease of different aetiology |
