International tourism influences beneficially the economies of the countries. It is widely known that the image of a destination influences the intentions of the tourists to visit it. Hence, it is imperative that the image of the Republic of Moldova as a tourism destination to be positive, which would lead to an increase in receptive tourism in Moldova. In this context, this article has the purpose to evaluate the image of Republic of Moldova as a tourism destination among Greeks. It uses a theoretical model that comprises five components of a destination image. Using 104 questionnaires delivered among Greeks interested in tourism activities, we found out that the Moldovan image as a tourism destination is imprecise, neutral, thus neither positive, nor negative, due to the respondents’ poor knowledge about Moldova. Furthermore, the Greeks reveal low intentions to visit Moldova, where particularly low intentions were observed among Greeks who have already visited Moldova. Moreover, this research study confirms that the image of a destination plays a strong influence on the tourists’ intentions. Based on the findings and conclusions of this research study, we suggest several recommendations to the tourism destination marketeers. |
