The morphological form of the word is determined not only by the ngeneral signs, but it may also be marked by national specific features. The enlargement of the vocabulary is hardly possible without the development of composition segments of the word. The classification of word formation in modern German (derivation, composition, neoclassical word-building) given earlier by scholars can help us understand more exactly the semantics of ge-nouns, as well as of free and dependent word combinations. In the article the morpheme is described as the lowest rank, from which the units of higher rank are made up. It is known that the morpheme may not always be an identifiable segment of the word. The bound morpheme is also considered in the article. With respect to morpheme we mean its grammatical and distributional equivalence. Prefix “ge-” in the ge-nouns is limited by lexical meaning, that is, it is semantically very clear determined. In this article the German prefix and circumfix units are analyzed from the point of view of semantics and morphology.
