Rezumat

The deconsecration and dediabolisation are two discursive phenomena regarded as the landmarks of the contemporary French political discourse. Given the abundancy of the discursive acts in this ultra-mediatisation age, is it possible to have a genuine understanding of the verbal contents conveyed by the political actors in the process of the accession/preservation to/of the political power? In this article the author proposes a semiotic approach aimed at dissecting the essence of the French political discourse in light of the phenomena of deconsecration and dediabolisation attested in the current political developments in France. Being treated as a macrosign, the political discourse is subject to a semiotic analysis with a view to establishing its essence and characteristics. In this regard, the author departs from the tetradic formula of the sign instituted by the Belgian semiotician Jean-Marie Klinkenberg and approaches the political discourse through the prism of the three components – the Stimulus, the Signifier, and the Signified. The fourth component, the Referent, will form the object of further research. The corpus studied for the purpose of this research includes the speeches delivered by François Mitterrand, Jacques Chirac, Nicolas Sarkozy, François Hollande, and Marine Le Pen. Upon completion of this research, the conclusion resides in the discrepancy between the Signifier and the Signified, as a mask of the political power, of which the political actors make a proficient use nowadays. Practicing such discrepancy has led to the deconsecration of the political discourse, even despite a certain tendency of dediabolisation displayed by the French far-right, which seemingly tends to appear less violent and aggressive. Thus, the semiotic analysis represents a way for decoding the true message conveyed via the political discourse.
