Sequelae after intrapartum complications are associated with severe and of average severity neurological outcomes. Aim of the work: assessment of neurological pathology and its severity at 2 years of life in newborns who suffered neonatal encephalopathy. Materials and methods. It was conducted a case-control study that included 104 term newborns who suffered from hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). The children were examined by a child neurologist at 3, 6, 9, 12, 18 and 24 months of life. Of 104 newborns investigated, 29 (group I) have suffered from HIE at birth and 75 were conditionally healthy (group II, of control). Results. HIE was diagnosed in all newborns from group I, 86,21% (25) cases in moderate form and 13,79% (4) cases in severe form. During the neonatal period HIE has advanced also due to other neurological comorbidities: bulbar syndrome (41,38%), posttraumatic neurological complications (37,93%). At 2 years the children from group I of the study were established the following sequelae: cerebral palsy (34,48%), secondary microcephaly (20,69%) symptomatic epilepsy (13,79%) and sensorineural deafness (3,45%) cases. Conclusions. The share of asphyxia in neonatal morbidity and mortality in the country has decreased by 5 and 3,7 times respectively. The prevalence of severe neurological sequelae at 2 years of life in children who suffered from HIE was 34,48%. |
