Rezumat

The alcoholism is one of the most critical phenomenon blooming in some societies. Among Romanians, this is a problem in last two decade. The parents alcoholism is a hidden family drama that needs psychological, social, and educational support for non-alcoholic children. Studying the prevalence of children who encounter major difficulties due to the alcohol dependence of one parent is the first step in any program adressed to families of alcoholics. The scores to Children of Alcoholics Screening Test (CAST) may offer to the practitioners an image upon children’s attitudes, feelings, perceptions and experiences related to the alcoholic behavior of one or both parents. The test was administered to a number of 271 eight grade pupils, both girls (N = 131) and boys (N = 140), in an comunity sample-based survey. The data analysis revealed an alarming number of children, possibly living with one or both alcoholic parents. Some suggestions regarding psychosocial and educational support adressed to children suffering from parents alcoholism are proposed.
