Monitoring of BCR-ABL1 transcripts in chronic myeloid leukemia using quantitative RT PCR provides useful diagnostic and prognostic information for clinicians. RT-qPCR provides reliable data in response to treatment through molecular monitoring of minimal residual disease. Currently, this method is considered the most sensitive in detection of gene expression. Nevertheless, RT-qPCR need to be validated in each laboratory and the accuracy of the results obtained by the method is closely related to the use of a control gene also referred to as reference gene. It provides statistical data processing algorithms to obtain a conversion factor which is used to standardize the method with reference laboratories and at international scale. |
