In this study, the author discusses the role and place of history in society. It is shown the role played by the historiography from different countries, in the interpretation of historical events. Before the profession of historian existed, there was a need for the established power to constitute also historically, which had raised the legitimate speech. For some, history is called to strengthen the national unity and the legitimacy of the state, for the others the truth about past events counts. Historical discourse is used in political interests, for creating of a formative and legitimate ideology. Therefore, the past is subject to all sorts of interpretations, because to control the past appears as a condition to control the present by the power.
