Rezumat

Since the rate and the triumph of the group’s desire over the individual represent themes well developed in the pirandellian creation, the given article wants to display in the comedy “The reason of others” how an individual’s desire, although is not a total a-moral, does not fit the required standards becoming unethical, because “it is different” from the group. A representative case is that of Elena involved in the “bourgeois triangle” of characters in the comedy “The reason of others” where we are witnessing an utterly absurdity of the game law. It collides on one hand with the laws of the bourgeois’ society that creates a whole, the honor, the constituted order of the family’s wellbeing – on the top values, and on the other hand, the laws of life expressed by the maternal love, laws that will be overcome. Elena, the victim, forced to succumb to “the reason of others” smitten by the “reason” in favor of her daughter “not being right”. According to the reason of others, in the name of “the good of the child”, it consumes an act of monstrous cruelty that leaves no hope for a life based on feelings.
