Rezumat

The current paper is based on the cultural dialogism theoretical premises expounded by Mihail Bahtin associated with the reception perspective proposed by H. R. Jauss and the sociological theory of R. Escarpit. Therefore, one can identify three reception phases of the Romantic French Theater in the history of the 19th century Romanian drama: 1820-1840; 1840-1860; 1860-1880. Each phase is marked by specific categories of audiences, various cultural personalities and the evolution forms of the cultural market. Our attempt to reconstruct this market leads to a number of conclusions : 1) Victor Hugo is the longest-lived model for the Romantic Romanian theater ; 2) The process of the Hugolian drama reception is delayed in relation to the issuing of the aesthetic message in the case of the active receptor (the playwright) and it is synchronized in the case of the passive receptor (reader/spectator) ; 3) The drawing-up of the national version of the Romantic model presupposes the absorbing of and the interference with the Classic experience (the recovery of the absent tradition) ; 4) The Romanian dramatic creation displays a double phenomenon of desynchronization. On the one hand, the majority of the writers draw upon the dramatic works dating from the playwright’s youth and, on the other hand, the model is outdated for the national versions which were produced in the latter half of the 19th century.
