This paper focuses on the linguistic policy in the Republic of Moldova, especially regarding the soviet past of this small post-communist country. The author considers that the real linguistic policy in the Republic of Moldova does not exist because of the low interest of politicians towards the necessity to integrate national minorities and to insure the efficient intercultural dialogue at the societal level. The author speaks about the problem of bilingual and multilingual phenomenon at the individual and societal levels. She proposes to promote the multilingual learning according to the European documents which are very concrete regarding the given issue: each European citizen must know, except her mother tongue, two foreign languages – this could represent a real solution for assuring the societal peace at the era of globalization.
