Rezumat

The significance of the Republic of Moldova on the international arena is a unessential one, nevertheless, because of geopolitical conjuncture it belongs to and its status of regional insecurity supplier, the great powers prove an increased attention towards it, perceiving Moldova as an element of a geostrategic game that gives rise to an imminent impact on national security. Due to its dependence on great powers’ geopolitical interests fluctuations in South-Eastern Europe, Moldovan national security needs permanently a pragmatic approach and also political and diplomatic skills. The controversial matter i.e. the permanent neutrality, which serves as basis to substantiate and institutionalize Moldovan national security, generates multidimensional instability and needs to be reassessed in the context of new threats, risks and vulnerabilities faced by the Republic of Moldova that can be reduced by creating a buffer-zone based on Euro-Atlantic oriented integration mechanisms.
