Rezumat

In the article „Written literature and development of national identity in the Gagauz South-Eastern Europe XIX – beg. XX centuries” is examined the problem of written literature of Gagauzians in the Southeast Europe. This topic is poorly explored in the historical development of the Gagauz ethnic group. Orthodox Gagauzians read religious books in the language of „Karamanli” in Turkish using Greek letters during the XIX century. At the end of the XIX century in Bessarabia appear first texts in the Gagauz language. In 1907, the Government of the Russian Empire permitted the printing of Orthodox books in the Gagauz language in Cyrillic in the 1907. An Orthodox priest Mihail Chakir Gagauz was the translator and author of the majority of these texts. The appearance of books in Gagauz language contributed to the development of the Gagauz identity in Gagauzian Bessarabia.
