The World War I (1914–1918), also called ”The Great War”, broke out in the context of political,economic, regional, antagonisms, collective mentalities etc., between the two European coalition - the Central Powers (Germany, Austria-Hungary and Turkey) and the Allied Powers (France, Britain, Russia, Italy, Japan and, from 1917,
USA). The war, lasting 1568 days, resulted in huge casualties. The total number of victims is estimated at 10 million dead, 21 million wounded and 7.7 million missing or prisoners. |
