The present paper is intended to conjure up the personality of the professor, scholar and the devoted friend to the Romanian people, Louis Michel. Together with other more famous experts and promoters of the Romanian language and culture from abroad, like Paul Miron, Georges Bartouille, Jean Pierre Courriol – just to name a few, professor Louis Michel, the founder of the Romanian Language and Literature Department of Paul Valéry University in Montpellier, author of studies and articles of impressive erudition and eloquent feeling, dedicated to the Romanian language and literature, is worth remembering both as person and author. It is not just an act of justice and piety, but also an act of remembering and subsuming him, for his valuable work, into the historic and literary contemporary context.

Studiul de faţă îşi propune să evoce personalitatea profesorului, omului de ştiinţa şi devotatului prieten al poporului român Louis Michel. Alături de alţi mai cunoscuţii experţi şi promotori ai românisticii dincolo de hotarele României, precum Paul Miron, Georges Bartouille, Jean-Pierre Courriol, ca să numim doar pe câţiva, profesorul Louis Michel, întemeietorul Secţiei de Limbă şi Literatură română la Universitatea Paul Valéry din Montpellier, autor al unor studii şi articole de o impresionantă erudiţie şi pilduitor sentiment, consacrate limbii şi literaturii române merită să fie readus în actualitate ca om şi autor. Nu este doar un act de dreptate şi pietate, ci mai ales unul de aducere în actualitate şi încadrat, cu deplină dreptate, pentru opera sa valoroasă, în contextul istoric şi literar contemporan.
