The present research sets to analyse the complex interaction of anthroponyms in the bilingual literary work of Panait Istrati, a Romanian writer of French expression, and the role played by the intercultural (as the quintessential principle of openness) in the evolution of anthroponymic creations. The study compares the use and function of French and Romanian in Istrati’s literature, as these two languages have visibly affected the author’s anthroponymic choices. With the help of a representative corpus consisting of onymic items in both the aforementioned languages, my paper describes the way in which certain language constructions react to their movement from one literary universe to another (especially as a result of the translations made by the author himself). At the same time, I underline the effect these constructions have within the narratives. The aim of my research is to show how important cultural interaction is in revealing both the linguistic mechanisms/techniques that can be found in bilingual texts, and the sociolinguistic motivations that underlie the anthroponymic choices of a writer who created in a foreign language a body of texts that fed itself on typically Romanian social realities.

Prezentul studiu îşi propune să analizeze complexa interacţiune a antroponimelor în opera bilingvă a scriitorului român de expresie franceză Panait Istrati, precum şi influenţa pe care interculturalul, ca principiu al deschiderii prin excelenţă, o are asupra evoluţiei creaţiilor antroponimice. Explorarea se va face într-o manieră comparativă între limba franceză şi română, cele doua limbi care au marcat profund opţiunea antroponimică a autorului. Comunicarea ne va da ocazia, cu ajutorul unui corpus reprezentativ în cele două limbi, să descriem modul în care unele formaţiuni lingvistice reacţionează la trecerea de la un univers literar la altul, mai ales prin intermediul traducerii autorului însuşi, şi incidenţa pe care acestea o au în cadrul naraţiunii. Scopul acestui articol este de a arăta cât de important este metisajul cultural pentru a putea decela procedeele şi mecanismele lingvistice prezente în textele bilingve, precum şi motivaţiile sociolingvistice care sunt la originea alegerii antroponimice a scriitorului care a creat într-o limbă străină o operă care îşi extrage essenta din realităţile sociale şi din specificul românesc.
